We are the Multi-disciplinary Team (MDT) and meet weekly on a Friday morning at 9.00am onwards via video-conferencing.
Purpose of the MDT meetings
The MDT is a group of highly specialised, dedicated clinicians who work closely together to diagnose your illness, discuss treatment options and agree the most appropriate treatment to offer you.
All patients are different and have differing needs, therefore, individualised care is planned with this in mind.
The aim is to provide the highest possible standard of care and support for you and your family.
The team may invite additional professionals to join them in their discussions about your illness if they believe that this will benefit your treatment and progress.
Who makes up the core MDT members:
Colorectal Consultant Surgeons:
Based at all sites within United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust. These are a team of surgeons who carry out operations for cancer treatment.
Consultant Gastroenterologists:
Medical doctors who diagnose and treat bowel conditions.
Consultant Clinical Oncologists:
Treat cancer with radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
Consultant Histopathologist:
Analyse the tissue biopsy results.
Consultant Radiologist:
Interprets and advises on the scans and x-rays that are carried out.
MDT administrator/co-ordinator:
Organises and administrates the patient pathway and meetings.
Bowel Screening Nurse Specialists:
Members of the team who carry out national screening tests for bowel cancer.
Endoscopy practitioners:
Doctor or nurse practitioner who carry out endoscopy procedures.
Research practitioner:
Advises on research trials available for people with bowel cancer.
Colorectal Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS):
You will be allocated a KEY WORKER who is a Colorectal Nurse Specialist.
They are based at each of the main hospital sites: Boston, Grantham and Lincoln.
The Colorectal Nurse Specialists act as your point of contact for providing support and information throughout your pathway of care. See below for contact details for your CNS teams.
