Finance is one of the Trust’s big priorities and can be improved if we all work together to make savings.

The Trust has received over 1,000 staff ideas for saving money. Every single idea has been allocated a lead and is being reviewed to understand what can be taken forward. As part of this process 18 ideas were taken to the senior leadership forum to illustrate to managers the depth and breadth of ideas that have been received. These ideas were discussed in groups to determine the opportunity to implement them. These included:

  • Ensure all waste is disposed of appropriately
  • Outsource non-core services
  • Purchase no additional PCs over and above current stock level
  • Stop colour printing
  • Minimise travel between sites
  • Ensure we code all activity correctly
  • Support a paper light Trust
  • Make the achievement of A&E waiting list targets everyone’s responsibility
  • Label stock with prices to make people think about which one to choose
  • Produce a top 10 good housekeeping guide for all wards and departments
  • Cease using outside venues for meetings
  • Standardisation of uniform
  • Reduce the number of offices required by hot desking and working from home
  • Stop sending patient appointment letters
  • Enforce standardisation of product use
  • Issue test results electronically
  • Use of social media technology in the treatment of patients

We will keep everyone updated on progress of these ideas. If you would like to share an idea, visit the staff intranet or email [email protected]
