The new Electronic Patient Record (EPR) will create a digital record for all patients under the care of Lincolnshire’s acute hospitals and allow clinicians to access patient data at the point of care.
The implementation of an EPR system will be a positive change for patients and staff, transforming the quality of care by helping support important clinical decision making, by increasing the speed and efficiency at which information can be shared across departments, wards and hospital sites and improving access for staff, patients and healthcare professionals across the Lincolnshire care system.
The cloud-based system will create new opportunities to digitalise healthcare services at ULTH and will provide clinicians with secure and instant access to real-time medical records.
ULTH and Nervecentre signed the 10 year contract following a competitive tender process and the allocation of funding for the system from NHS England in May 2025.
NHS England is providing £1.9 billion to NHS trusts to ensure they all meet a core level of digitisation and have EPRs in place. This investment will ensure that health and care staff have access to health-related information when and where it is needed, supporting them to deliver care efficiently, effectively and safely, reducing variation and improving outcomes.
Professor Colin Farquharson, Group Chief Medical Officer, said: “This is a really important change for our local NHS that will bring many benefits for our staff and patients. Now we have signed the contract with Nervecentre, we will start to implement the EPR across all sites of our Trust. This means that within the next year we will start to see patient data in real time, and this will allow some areas to start to have immediate access to a comprehensive range of patient data at the bedside. For clinicians, the EPR represents new opportunities that we are excited to see realised.”
Michael Humber, Group Director of Digital Services said: “We are excited to have signed a contract with Nervecentre as this brings us another step closer to our fully digitised patient record. By using technology we will be delivering tools for our frontline staff that support them to focus on improving care and increasing patient safety. We have laid great foundations to support our EPR by improving our digital infrastructure and we look forward to beginning the Nervecentre roll-out across our Trust from September 2025.”
ULTH joins a growing regional network of acute trusts that have committed to using Nervecentre and which will join the same EPR platform. This will encourage borderless collaboration among participating hospitals, enabling secure data exchange whilst respecting localised record-sharing preferences.
Nervecentre CEO Paul Volkaerts emphasised the importance of this partnership: “We’re delighted that contracts have been signed with ULTH. Along with eight other acute trusts across the country – from Yorkshire to Sussex, they will join our cloud-native EPR platform, which offers unprecedented opportunities for collaboration and seamless record sharing between providers.”
