New roles for volunteers to support the Accident and Emergency Department at Pilgrim Hospital, Boston are now available.

A coffee morning is being held on Wednesday 19 April from 10am to 1pm for anyone interested in becoming a volunteer at A&E to pop along and have a chat with staff to find out more.

Lauren Wignell A&E Performance Manager said: “This is a really exciting opportunity for anyone interested in supporting our fabulous A&E staff. We haven’t had volunteer roles within the department for a number of years so we’re thrilled to be able to welcome volunteers back.”

The duties of the volunteers in A&E will include welcoming patients and visitors to the department, providing information to patients such as waiting times and escorting patients to main reception or the discharge lounge.

Other duties include sitting and chatting with patients and relatives, assisting with meals and drinks, general tidying and supporting those patients and relatives with dementia by utilising the memory boxes.

United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust currently has 250 volunteers across the Trust but would like to have 1000 volunteers by 2021.

Andrew Tysoe Voluntary Services Manager said: “Whether you are retired, between jobs or looking to forge a career in the NHS, volunteering at the Trust can be a really rewarding experience both for you and  ULHT. If you have four hours a week spare for the next six months or longer please contact us today.”

There are vacancies across the four hospital sites. For more information please visit https://www.ulh.nhs.uk/jobs/working-for-us/volunteering/
