Registered nurses across Lincolnshire are being invited to join the United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust’s nurse bank- to pick up flexible nursing work along with favourable NHS terms and conditions.

The Trust, which runs hospitals in Lincoln, Boston and Grantham, currently has 601 registered nurses on its bank. These staff are valued so much as they help maintain safe staffing on the wards.

The benefits of joining the bank include:

  • Flexible working
  • Earn some extra money from taking on extra shifts
  • Get experience working in new areas for your career development
  • Maintaining professional registration and requirements for revalidation
  • You are able to join the NHS Pension Scheme when you join the bank, and have access to education and training to help with revalidation

Director of Nursing for ULHT, Michelle Rhodes, said: “Our nurse bank is a really valuable resource for us, enabling us to fill nursing shifts on our wards and departments safely. We would like to encourage more people to consider joining the bank.

“There are huge benefits for those who join our bank, both in terms of career development and experience and job flexibility,” she said.

All nurses in Lincolnshire are being invited to sign up to join the bank.

Kirsty Gilbertson has been working shifts on the ULHT bank at Lincoln County Hospital for more than a year and said it has been a brilliant experience.

“Joining the nurse bank has allowed me to do a job I love with a greater degree of flexibility, which is just what I need at this point in my career,” she said,

“I can choose my hours to suit my needs – instead of trying to plan my life around work, I can plan work around my life and still get paid holidays. I’m enjoying the variety and have no problems booking as much work as I want. I would definitely recommend it, as it’s been a really positive move for me.”

Emmajean Hearn works as a staff nurse at Pilgrim Hospital in Boston and said: “After leaving my role as a sister in a different Trust I wanted to have the flexibility of working when and where I wanted to work which fits in around my family.

“I chose to work at my local hospital as I still wanted to feel part of the NHS and the teams I work with on the wards.”

Stephanie Turner works on the bank at Grantham and District Hospital and said: “I have worked as a practice nurse for 17 years and wanted a change in my career, working on the wards is completely different.

“Bank work gives me the flexibility to work as much or as little as I want. I don’t have to request holiday I just take it when I want it and I can please myself.”
