A mobile unit that provides a free breast screening service to women 50 years of age and over will soon be coming to Woodhall Spa. We will be inviting women from the following practices for routine screening:

  • New Surgery, 20 Silver Street, Coningsby, Lincoln LN4 4SG
  • Woodhall Spa New Surgery, The Broadway, Woodhall Spa, Lincs LN10 6SQ
  • Tasburgh Lodge, 30 Victoria Avenue, Woodhall Spa, Lincs LN10 6TX

The mobile screening unit, run by the Lincolnshire Breast Screening Service will be situated in the car park of the Community Centre, Alexandra Road, Woodhall Spa, Lincs LN10 6RE and will be there between April to June approximately.

Breast screening is carried out every three years for all women in the UK aged 50 and over. Women aged between 50 and 70 are routinely invited for screening. Anyone who experiences any symptoms before being invited or between their routine 3 yearly invitations to a screening appointment should always contact their GP.

Women aged 71 and over who would like to have a mammogram are welcome to ring the administration office to make an appointment on 01522 573999.

The Lincolnshire Breast Screening Service has started the national Age Extension Pilot Scheme where women aged from 47 to 49 years or 71 to 73 years from practices will be automatically invited for screening.

Screening Office Manager, Alysa Page, from United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “Early detection of breast cancer is crucial in improving a woman’s prognosis and so we strongly encourage women to attend a breast screening session.

“Little is known about how to prevent breast cancer, but the earlier it is found the better the chance for successful treatment.  About one in eight women are diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime. There’s a good chance of recovery if it’s detected in its early stages.  Providing a screening service is part of the work being done to reduce this life threatening disease.”

The mobile service tours the county on a regular basis, but only visits one area at a time and appointments must be made to use the service.
