Say thank you to a compassionate nurse – nominate them today!

Say thank you to a compassionate nurse or midwife- nominate them today!

The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award is an international recognition program that honours and celebrates the skilful, compassionate care nurses and midwives provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died from complications of the auto-immune disease ITP in 1999. During his hospitalisation, they deeply appreciated the care and compassion shown to Patrick and his entire family. When he died, they felt compelled to say “thank you” to nurses and midwives in a very public way.

We want to hear your stories of where our nurses or midwives have gone above and beyond and demonstrated compassion during a specific episode of extraordinary care:

C – Commitment to compassionate care
O – Open and trustworthiness
M – Maximum opportunities to make a difference
P – Practice with intelligent kindness
A – Always listening to patients and colleagues
S – Sensitivity to care needs from a patients perspective
S – Supportive leadership at all levels
I – Inspirational care for you
O – Observing and recognising suffering and does something about it
N – The nurse you’d want to be looked after by

Each DAISY Award Honoree will be recognised at a public ceremony in their ward or department and will receive: a beautiful certificate, a DAISY Award pin, and a hand-carved stone sculpture entitled A Healer’s Touch.

Please say thank you by sharing your story of how a nurse or midwife made a difference you will never forget.
