What does the ULHT Paediatric Home Enteral Nutrition Service do?
We provide evidence-based dietetic advice and support in the community to children aged 0-18 years who have a feeding tube placed to receive enteral nutrition and/or fluid, and their families/carers.
We also provide advice about oral diet for children who use a feeding tube alongside this.
Our team consists of registered dietitians and dietetic assistants.
Dietitians are the only nutrition professionals to be regulated by law and are regulated by the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC). Our dietitians are also members of the British Dietetic Association.
Our dietitians assess individual patient requirements and recommend suitable feeds and ways of supporting nutrition to meet the needs of the child. This will be reviewed and monitored regularly.
We offer telephone, video or face to face appointments.
Our team communicates frequently with the home delivery service to ensure feed and related equipment are provided in a timely manner.
We also liaise with children’s community nurses, special school nurses and specialist nurse trainers who provide expert advice and training on tube and stoma care, and with other healthcare professionals such as speech and language therapists.
