Benefits at work

A great NHS pension, generous annual leave, flexible work patterns and career breaks… just part of what’s on offer.

Flexible working is an agreement that differs from what is often thought of as a “normal” working arrangement. It allows for more flexible working time to encourage and allow for a positive work-life balance. There are many different kinds of flexible working that have been designed to suit the various teams and departments that ULTH have within the hospitals.

ULTH offers generous leave for staff and is pro-rata with your working hours which increases with your NHS service years.

  • Up to 5 years service – 202.5 hours annual leave, plus bank holidays
  • 5 years to 9 years service – 217.5 hours annual leave, plus bank holidays
  • 10 years and above service – 247.5 hours annual leave, plus bank holidays

The NHS Pension Scheme is still one of the most generous and comprehensive in the UK. When you start working for the NHS you will automatically become a member (unless you opt-out) and you will get an excellent package of pension benefits, including life insurance and ill-health retirement benefits.  Your contribution is dependant on your full time equivalent salary with an employer contribution of 14.38%. A pre-retirement course is available.

Recognising the fantastic work all our staff and volunteers do on a daily basis is incredibly important.

  • Examples of Excellence is a personalised, professional certificate of recognition which can be completed online and the recipient will receive the completed certificate in their emails.  Alternatively you can print a blank certificate and complete by hand.
  • Staff awards provides an annual chance to recognise the hard work, dedication or fabulous care given by our staff members, volunteers and teams.  The events are fully funded by sponsorship and winners are provided with a beautiful glass trophy.
  • Daisy Awards are an international recognition program that honours and celebrates the skilful, compassionate care nurses and midwives provide every day.

As you think about retirement, think about returning. You have lots of skills, knowledge and experience necessary to deliver safe patient care which would be missed.  The Retire and Return scheme is an initiative that looks at retiring staff and works on roles that they can come back to – the new role could be in the same ward/clinic or could be a completely different area.  This could support your health and wellbeing as you approach retirement but wish to continue working.

Cycle2Work is a great employee benefit which offers the most cost-effective way to get new cycling equipment. The scheme is run via a salary sacrifice meaning you won’t pay tax or national insurance – this saves you between 30% and 42% on your new bike and accessories.

This reduced cost is simply deducted out of your payslip over 24 months, so no need to worry about large one-off costs.  You will be making savings whilst keeping fit, reducing your carbon footprint and spending less time in your car!

The Trust Lease Car Scheme, in association with NHS Fleet Solutions, is designed to provide you and your family with competitively priced and trouble free motoring.

Under the scheme, you lease a car using the Trust’s current lease car suppliers, normally for a period of three years. There is no deposit and costs are fixed for all elements for the duration of the lease. The car will be insured for yourself and up to four named drivers (assuming they are legally entitled to drive). Employees will have the opportunity to make further savings by the use of a salary sacrifice scheme subject to their salary not being “sacrificed” to a level below the national minimum wage.

Ensure that you read all documentation regarding the scheme carefully before you commit as there may be instances where the scheme does not benefit some staff.

Motor source group are a company who will source cars at a discounted rate, on average customers save £4,500 and part exchanges are considered.  Your new car can also be delivered directly to your front door.
