A pre–operative assessment is an appointment where your fitness for surgery and anaesthesia is assessed and if any further referrals are required, these can be arranged.
The Pre-Operative Assessment Service is currently based across three of our sites – Boston, Grantham and Lincoln hospitals, and you will usually be offered any face-to-face appointments at the site most convenient for you to attend.
Your pre-operative assessment will start with a telephone call from a health care support worker, who will complete an assessment with you about your health, fitness, past operations, medications and hospital admissions before deciding the next steps.
Depending on your health, you may need a further video or telephone appointment, blood tests, swabs or a face-to-face assessment. These will be discussed with you during your initial call.
