Introduction
Due to the service being in its infancy, acceptance for referrals will be targeted to certain groups of children and young people who have epilepsy. As the service grows and develops, expansion will grow to involve other categories of children and young people living with epilepsy. The service is Trust wide with delivery from Pilgrim Hospital, Boston, Grantham and District Hospital and Lincoln County Hospital. Please email [email protected] for further information.
We are also part of the Children’s Epilepsy Workstream in Trent (CEWT) which compromises of consultant paediatricians and other children’s epilepsy specialist nurses who meet on a regular basis to discuss and keep ourselves updated on current NICE guidelines.

This criteria specifically refers to the second year of the new service being developed for children and young people who have epilepsy living within the Lincolnshire geographical boundaries.
Due to the service still being developed with limited staff members, acceptance for referrals will be targeted to certain groups of children and young people who have epilepsy. As the service grows and develops, expansion will occur to involve other categories of CYP living with epilepsy. The service is Trust wide with delivery from Pilgrim Hospital, Boston, Grantham and District Hospital and Lincoln County Hospital.
Inclusion criteria
A child or young person aged 0-19 years, who have either:
- Failed two epilepsy medications/ Have an epilepsy syndrome which has been diagnosed/under 1 years of age with complex epilepsy (not febrile convulsions) which would include West Syndrome
- Is a new patient who has been referred from a tertiary centre who has had at least one consultation with a ULHT Consultant.
And those referred must be:
- registered with a Lincolnshire GP
- under the care of a ULHT Consultant.
Referrals will be accepted from all children’s assessment units, neo-natal services and inpatient children’s wards as well as tertiary centres. Referrals to be made to: [email protected]
Children and young people following a ketogenic diet and/or CBD for their epilepsy will be accepted, as this cohort of children need to be under a consultant paediatrician epilepsy specialist.
Exclusion criteria
Patients who do not have a confirmed diagnosis of epilepsy. Non epileptic attacks (e.g. syncope, panic attacks, psedoseizure), febrile convulsion intercurrent illness or infection. Alcohol or drug ingestion. Alcohol withdrawal, malignancy +/- secondaries. Referrals will not be accepted from GP/primary care.
