We are leading the way in training nursing associates – a new role for the NHS and an opportunity for staff to gain skills and training to support our registered nurses.
Regulated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), we have joined with health and care providers in Lincolnshire and the University of Lincoln to develop the role, which will work with bridge the gap between health care support workers and registered nurses.
This will mean nurses spend more time using their specialist training to focus on clinical duties and take a greater lead in decisions about patient care.
The Nursing Associate role provides an opportunity to develop and formally recognise staff across hospital, community and home settings.
When first launched, Health Education England said the role would establish a clear pathway for aspiring nurses, through education and training and the regulation by the NMC would give confidence to patients and employers that it is an important part of the NHS workforce.
