About outpatients

Outpatient departments in Lincolnshire’s hospitals provide a range of services to patients in Lincolnshire. The departments offer daytime first appointments, follow-up appointments and assessments across a range of specialties.

There are outpatient departments run by United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust at Lincoln County Hospital, Pilgrim Hospital, Boston, Grantham and District Hospital and County Hospital, Louth.

Lincoln County Hospital

The outpatient department at Lincoln County Hospital provides specialist services for adults and children covering a wide variety of medical and surgical conditions.

The departments see thousands of patients every week supported by other essential services, for example radiology, physiotherapy, and medical physics.

When attending your appointment you may be required to check in at the self-check-in kiosk or central reception desk.

Pilgrim Hospital, Boston

The outpatient departments at Pilgrim Hospital, Boston is a multi-speciality unit which caters for all age groups and provides clinics which are either run by consultants or specialist nurses.

There a number of special outpatient areas that are run independently, these include:

  • Royle eye department
  • ENT
  • Boston breast unit
  • Fracture clinic

We would ask that patients who come into the department via patient transport let the nurse know on arrival so it can be requested after they have finished.

Grantham and District Hospital

The outpatient departments at Grantham and District Hospital sees around 1,500 patients each week, providing consultations in a private, confidential setting. Our patients are usually referred to one of our clinicians from GPs, although some may have been sent following an A&E attendance or from opticians.

The outpatient department holds a number of clinics. These include consultant-led activity from a variety of specialties, including both medical and surgical specialties.

In addition, a number of clinical nurse specialists run clinics supporting doctors from a variety of clinical areas.

Various diagnostic tests and treatments are also carried out within the department, by nurses who have undergone specialist training.

Some of the clinics are supported by other health professionals such as audiologists and orthoptists.

In addition to the outpatient department, patients with joint or bone problems are also seen within the orthopaedic and fracture clinics which have access to a plaster room where specialist casting is undertaken.

Opened in December 2016, ophthalmology is based in a different part of the hospital, and has adjacent car parking.

The areas care for people of all ages, including children.

County Hospital, Louth

County Hospital, Louth’s outpatients department and Woldside unit hold a wide range of clinics supported by visiting surgeons and physicians, specialist nurses and technicians from Lincoln County Hospital and Pilgrim Hospital, Boston as well as from Grimsby Hospital.
