The Trust is celebrating International Day of the Midwife on Saturday 5 May to commemorate the hard work and dedication of midwives.

The maternity teams at ULHT will be taking part in a range of activities to celebrate and raise the profile of midwives in Lincolnshire and across the country.

Starting at 2pm at Birchwood Leisure Centre, Lincoln, a family fun and fitness afternoon is taking place to help raise funds for new equipment including a climbing wall, 3D spin studio and refreshments as well as a discounted soft play area.

Over in Boston, a ‘walk with the midwives’ event will be taking place. Starting from the maternity unit at 2pm, midwives, doctors and patients are invited to walk into Boston town centre to the May Fair and take part in a fun photo shoot. They will then return to the maternity unit for refreshments and a raffle.

Sandra Pygott, Midwife at Pilgrim Hospital, Boston said, “This year for International Day of the Midwife we really want to showcase how midwives help improve quality of care and experience for mothers, babies and families in our care. We’d love to see as many people as possible come and support us.”

Louise Meldrum, Midwife at Lincoln County Hospital said, “Midwives are there at a really important time for mothers and their families and it is great to be able to celebrate all midwives do across the county. We look forward to seeing everyone.”

International Day of the Midwife began in 1991 by the International Confederation of Midwives. The day is celebrated all over the world to highlight the importance of midwives.
