Outpatients Matron Sam Daniels teamed up with Active Nation at Yarborough Leisure Centre and class instructors from across the region to offer one class every hour over 24 hours from 3pm on Friday last week right through to 3pm on Saturday for the fit-a-thon.

Sponsorship is still coming in and will be donated to the Trust’s charitable funds. One of the projects that will benefit from the event is a garden area for cancer patients and their families at Lincoln County Hospital.

Sam said: “Only a few of us were crazy enough to stay for the full 24 hours, but the atmosphere and support from everyone was amazing. Not only have we raised a lot of money that is going to benefit patients at our hospitals, but it was inspiring to see so many staff getting active.

“We had everyone from our chief executive, to my colleagues, friends and family all taking part .”

Fit-a-thon classes included everything from spin, to Grit, Zumba, Bollywood, burlesque and everything in between. The team also collected donations from the centre’s supporters by manning two studio bikes in the reception area.

Sam is hoping to make the fit-a-thon an annual event, so if anyone was unable to attend this year you will be able join in the fun and action this time next year!

Sam added: “I would like to say a massive thank you to all of the instructors and Active Nation – everyone agreed to give us their time and the studio space for free. This means that any money we have raised can be used to make a difference for our patients and staff.”
