Patients in Lincolnshire now have more access to cancer services thanks to the reintroduction of a service at Grantham and District hospital.

A very successful pilot day of the CT biopsy service at Grantham now means that a full rollout of the service can be implemented from Monday 3 September.

This means that we can now increase the number of biopsies by 50% and reduce waiting times for Lincolnshire patients. For lung biopsies we are aiming for below 10 days from referral to procedure.

The service is particularly important for those patients who live in the Grantham area as it means they do not need to travel to other hospitals in the county.

Kelly Hammerton, sister for radiology said, “The reintroduction of this service will mean so much to local people. I’m very proud and excited to be part of this and the difference it makes. Not having to travel will make a massive difference for patients and their families.”

Nigel Allen, radiology operational manager added, “The CT lung biopsy service at Grantham will also provide additional capacity to improve the cancer pathway for patients throughout the Trust by reducing waiting times for biopsy procedures.”
