Our annual Staff Awards was held on Thursday 2 May and attended by around 200 staff, patients, and sponsors. It was a great evening which really celebrated the wide range of services and roles we have across ULHT.

This year more than 600 nominations were received for staff in a wide range of job roles, all showcasing the fantastic quality of care that is given to patients and colleagues in Lincolnshire’s hospitals.

Angie Ellis and the urology team for Lincoln and Louth won the award for ‘extra mile – clinical’. Their nomination from a patient talked about how exceptionally ‘professional, approachable and compassionate the team were in the care of him and his wife.’ They were also praised for the work done to set up a much valued bladder cancer support group.

“We were delighted to receive this award as we were nominated by our service users. Our philosophy of treating patients how we or a member of our family would wish to be treated is obviously appreciated,” said Angie.

“Our bladder cancer support group, which has run now for six years, provides significant support for patients and our nominations from these patients reflect its importance and help, in coming to terms with their diagnosis and treatment plans. The group allows patients to talk to each other and give personal support which cannot come from a healthcare professional.”

Dixon Ward at Lincoln County Hospital won the award for ‘team of the year – clinical.’ Their nomination described the team as a ‘family’ and ‘keeping the patient at the heart of everything they do.’

Sister Alison Strutt said, “What an absolute honour to win ‘team of the year – clinical. To be the winning team among so many fabulous others has brought pride and a sense of achievement to every member of staff on the ward. We work so hard often under very unpredictable and trying circumstances, and to be recognised for our determination, passion and support for each other and our patients has motivated us all to want to continue to be the best.”
