United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust processes patient special category (health) personal data to support the better coordination of Elective Care. The aim is to improve the delivery of planned treatment through better use of the information that the Trust holds, making sure the data is valid and accurate, and that the Trust can use the information to improve on the waiting times for elective care in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Article 6 condition for processing:
Article 6(1)(e) – processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the controller
The Article 9 exemption to process special category data:
Article 9(2)(h) – processing is necessary for the purposes of preventive or occupational medicine, for the assessment of the working capacity of the employee, medical diagnosis, the provision of health or social care or treatment or the management of health or social care systems and services on the basis of domestic law
We use the Trust’s Foundry Platform (provided by Palantir Technologies Ltd as a Processor) to create one single version of the Trust’s Elective Waiting List. The tools within Foundry give clinicians a better view and understanding of their waiting lists and will assist the Trust to manage resources more effectively.
Access to the information within the Trusts Foundry is based on an individual’s role as given by the Trust, and is fully auditable. Patient personal data is only processed for the purpose above within the Foundry platform.
