He commenced his training in Ophthalmology at the Royal Eye Hospital, Manchester and was then appointed as Specialist Registrar at the Glasgow Eye Infirmary/ Western Infirmary (Western Health District) Glasgow, where he completed his specialty training. He has also undertaken Fellowship in Retinal diseases at the Sussex Eye Hosptial, Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust, Brighton. He is involved in medical education and is an examiner for the University of Nottingham Medical School. He coordinates Royal College CME approved medical events and is often invited to lecture at medical meetings. He is the author of a number of scientific articles that were either published or presented at international conferences. He was an investigator for IVAN and MERLOT, national clinical trials evaluating the safety and efficacy of treatment options for Wet Macular Degeneration.
Currently he is the Principal investigator for the following research projects: TULIP : Use of Intravitreal JETREA® in Clinical Practice, A European Prospective Drug Utilisation Study. TANDEM: A randomised controlled Trial of high and low dose Avastin for Neovascular macular Degeneration in the East Midlands. This is due to start at Pilgrim hospital shortly.
