Gifts in wills

Give the gift of caring for the future by including the United Lincolnshire Hospitals Charity in your will.

Gifts in wills are the largest single source of income to UK charities, legacies make a vital difference to good causes across the country from people choosing to leave them a gift.

Your legacy can help us to continue providing those additional extras to support thousands of future Lincolnshire patients.

By having a will, you are making plans to support the needs of your family and loved ones. A donation made in your will can also help reduce the tax burden on your estate.

How does it work?

A gift in your will could be leaving a percentage of your estate to the United Lincolnshire Hospitals Charity – this is known as a residuary gift. Even 1% of an estate could provide amazing additions to our healthcare for future generations.

You could also decide on a fixed amount, such as £1,000 – this is known as a pecuniary gift, where every pound will be spent to improve our services.

Some people like to leave a treasure that they own. A first edition book, original paintings, pieces of jewellery and in some cases a house. This gift could support frontline NHS staff and improve the patient experience within our Hospitals.

What do I need to do?

To leave a gift in your will to charity, you simply need to include the basics. Our name, address and registered charity number. That way you can be assured your gift gets to where it needs to be.

  • United Lincolnshire Hospitals Charity
  • United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust, Lincoln County Hospital, Greetwell Road, Lincoln, Lincolnshire, LN2 5QY.
  • Registered Charity Number: 1058065

If you’re planning to add United Lincolnshire Hospitals Charity to an existing will, we advise that you use a trusted solicitor or advisor.

The United Lincolnshire Hospitals Charity is always delighted and grateful to receive a gift, but it will go further when not specified what the money should be used for. This is because changes in the type of equipment used, the names of wards or units, or even the treatment provided may mean that services are different to those named when the Trust receives your legacy. A suggested example of the wording for legacies is shown below.

Sample legacy wording

I give and bequeath the sum of £…… / I leave the residue of my Estate to United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust, or its successors, for the benefit of the Trust generally*.

I declare that the receipt of the Treasurer for the time being to the said NHS Trust shall be sufficient discharge to my executors.

* The following may be added if you wish your donation to be for the specific benefit of a ward, department etc:
… without imposing trust, but with the wish that it be used for the benefit of ……… Hospital / ……… Ward / ……… Department / ……… Research. (delete as applicable)
