Maternity services

Welcome to our maternity services, which are highly rated by the independent Care Quality Commission.

We have two obstetric units, a midwifery managed unit and we maintain a positive and proactive approach to promoting choice of birth place, for example home birth. Almost 6,000 babies are born annually in ULH and the caesarean section rate is lower than the national average.

The Trust is currently undergoing the UNICEF assessment process to achieve Baby Friendly status, demonstrating that we actively encourage and support breastfeeding whilst being firmly committed to offering informed choice of infant feeding to all women.

We offer a comprehensive range of antenatal and postnatal services at Lincoln County Hospital and Pilgrim Hospital, Boston as well as a midwifery managed unit at Grantham and District Hospital.

Our midwives and doctors provide 24 hour care at this special time during pregnancy, labour and after the birth.

Our philosophy of care

Our aim is to provide a high standard of maternity care, in a safe environment, to all women, their partners and families, booked with United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust,

We believe:

  • In working in partnership with women and fostering a woman and family-centred approach to care
  • That the exchange of information and professional knowledge enables women to make informed choices about their care and options for birth, which allows midwives to provide a flexible plan of care that meets the needs of the mother and family
  • In making parents feel secure in the knowledge that the service provided will be evidence-based, and will prepare and support the mother throughout her pregnancy, labour and postnatal period
