Prehabilitation
What is Prehabilitation?
Prehabilitation is offered to those patients who are awaiting further cardiac treatment. This may be cardiac surgery or angioplasty. It is recognised that this is a period of great anxiety for many patients and their families and therefore we aim to support you during this period of time.
Patients are usually referred by their cardiologist to the Cardiac rehabilitation Nurse Specialists who will subsequently make contact with the individual concerned.
Patients are provided with contact details for their local cardiac rehabilitation nurse specialist and are advised to contact them by telephone should they require further information or support. If required then a home visit can subsequently be arranged.
Patients are also offered the opportunity to attend a drop in session at one of the Phase 3 classes, this enables them to meet the cardiac rehabilitation nurse specialists and also provides them with the chance to meet with other patients who are awaiting or have recently had similar procedures.
Once patients have had their procedure they are then encouraged to make contact with their cardiac rehabilitation nurse specialist to ensure that their individual cardiac rehabilitation programme can commence without delay.
