ENT - Ear, Nose and Throat
Welcome to the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Outpatients Department – Clinic 6, Lincoln County Hospital. The clinic is open between 8.30am and 5.30pm Monday to Friday and we see around 500 patients weekly. The department looks after an extensive range of ear, nose and throat problems which present at different stages of life, so the clinic see patients from infancy to old age.
Communication is a key element within the outpatients department, both within the multi-disciplinary team, and with the patients and their families. The ethos with regards to patient care on Clinic 6 is to treat people as you wish to be treated yourself, and all staff promote this attitude within the clinic by utilising a professional, friendly and approachable manner. Within Clinic 6 we realise the individual needs of each patient, and adapt the care by looking at quality of life.
The vast range of ENT outpatients sessions include:
Casualty referral clinics
new and review follow up clinics nasal injury clinics
head and neck oncology
thyroid and neck lump clinics
minor operations sessions and pre-operative care.
The clinic liaise closely with a number of different wards, departments, and specialists, and the audiology department, speech and language department, as well as the Macmillian head and neck nurse specialist are all situated close by to the clinic. This assists in providing good quality care and prompt response to patient needs.
The ENT team are all well developed and experienced in care needs, and consist of; a modern matron, ENT Sssters and pre-operative nurses, nurse led suction clearance, staff nurses, trainee assistant practitioner, health care support workers, Macmillian head and neck clinical nurse specialist, consultant ENT surgeons, associate specialists, receptionists and ENT secretaries. Additional medical staff include a specialist registrar and senior house officers.
Consultant ENT surgeons work in partnership with Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham, and link up once a week to discuss treatments for newly dianosed cancer patients, then meet in the clinic later to talk with patients and their families.
The clinic prides itself on the range of teaching opportunites for medical and nursing students, who are able to observe the ENT consultants and associate specialists who have years of experience in the clinic and within Lincoln County Hospital.
